Second 'Frankenweenie' trailer reveals plot
On June 26, Disney released the second trailer for "Frankenweenie." The latest trailer provides Tim Burton fans with both more footage from the black-and-white, stop-motion animated film and a sense of just how much Burton loves his monster movies.
Like the first "Frankenweenie" trailer and the recently released character photos, the second trailer focuses on the love http://beatsbydrdreonline2013.webs.com young Victor Frankenstein (voiced by Charlie Tahan) holds for his beloved dog Sparky. It's a love so strong that even death won't separate them - as Victor reanimates his dog with the help of a spark of electricity.
The second "Frankenweenie" trailer is explicit about its homage to classic horror films, offering visual touches and references to "Frankenstein" (1931) and "Bride of Frankenstein" (1935). Burton also adds images and conventions found other monster movies; look for clever references to "The Mummy" (1932) and "Godzilla" (1954), among others.
Beyond revealing the basics of Sparky's return to the world of the living, the trailer shows how Victor is inspired to revive Sparky. Viewers see his reaction to hhttp://monstersbeatdrdrevip.webs.com a science lesson by his teacher Mr. Rzykruski (voiced by Martin Landau, who played Bela Lugosi in Burton's "Ed Wood").
Then, Sparky's return is threatened by Edgar (Atticus Schaffer), one of Victor's classmates and designed to look like Igor, the assistant in "Frankenstein. Edgar tells other children who want to bring back their own pets.
Thus, "Frankenweenie" promises Burton's quirky take on playground one-upmanship will wreak havoc on the community. And, thanks to his mad-scientist experiment, Victor will find himself (along with Sparky and his parents) in the middle of a own monster movie gone horribly, humorously off-script.
With such touches, both darkly humorous and sentimental, with a sympathetic look at outsiders, the second "Frankenweenie" trailer, also available at Apple iTunes, recalls some of the best of vintage Burton. "Frankenweenie" has a strong relationship with "Edward Scissorhands," "Ed Wood," "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and most directly, the 1984 short of the same name that inspired this animated movie.
Pittsburgh movie-goers will catch the film when its opens at the AMC Loews Waterfront 22, SouthSide Works Cinema and Waterworks Cinema 10. Look for locations and movie tickets available for online purchase at Fandango.
